How to Transfer Money from Venmo to Chime

You can transfer money from Venmo to Chime, but it has to be to the Chime card, not directly. As I mentioned earlier, there is no direct support.

Venmo offers two ways to get your money out of your Venmo account. One of the methods is the “standard transfer” which only supports sending funds to your bank through the ACH network to a verified checking account. This method is free but the money will arrive 1-3 business days after you request the transfer.

Now, the method that will work with Venmo is called “Instant Transfer”. But first, you would have added your Chime card following the steps in the previous section. Now, follow these steps to transfer money from Venmo to Chime.

  1. Open the Venmo app.
  2. Go to the Me tab.
  3. Tap Add or Transfer under Wallet (some users may see a Manage button instead).
  4. Select Instant (1.75% fee, minimum of $0.25 and maximum of $25). Do not select 1-3 biz days because it is the bank transfer method.

Note that this transfer will charge you a 1.75% fee (a minimum fee of $0.25 and a maximum fee of $25 is deducted from the transfer amount for each transfer) and typically arrives within 30 minutes.

Additional things to know about these transfers?

  • You can do instant transfers any day, anytime, even on holidays.
  • Sometimes, Venmo might face issues, affecting transfers.
  • Venmo checks transfers. If there’s a problem, your transfer might be stopped, delayed, or even declined.
  • In some cases, your money might be held or taken from your account. For more on this, see the Reviews of Transfers Out of Venmo section.

Venmo to Chime Declined

There could be many reasons.

  • Venmo’s security checks might stop it.
  • Always use a card in your name and make sure your Venmo account has your real name.
  • If you still face issues, even if you’ve used that card or bank before, you might not be able to use the instant transfer feature for now.
  • If this happens, you can do a regular bank transfer for free but this method won’t work if you are sending the funds to Chime.

But how do you know if an instant transfer to Chime worked? After you start a transfer, you should see a green check mark. Once it’s done, Venmo will notify you. If it’s still pending after 30 minutes, check your bank statement.

If you don’t see the transfer, talk to your bank. Tell them to look for an original credit transaction (OCT) or a real-time payment, not a missing ACH/direct deposit.
